Frequently Asked Questions
If you have lost or are about to lose all the teeth on your upper or lower jaw, the All on 4 dental implant may be your perfect solution. All on 4 is also a great option for patients with failing crowns and bridgework. All on 4 requires fewer implants than replacing each tooth individually, and it provides a permanent alternative to temporary solutions like dentures.
The best way to determine whether you’re a good candidate for All on 4 dental implants in Towson is by scheduling a consultation at the Krupp Center. You’ll work with our doctors to find the right solution to restoring your natural smile.
The All on 4 technique allows us to restore the smile for virtually any patient, even those with severe bone loss from periodontal disease. During your consultation and the preparation process, we’ll take extensive imaging of your teeth and jaw to find the areas with the highest bone density. We’ll customize your All on 4 implant to anchor the dental implant in these specific areas, giving you a strong foundation for a bright smile.
To begin the process of creating and installing your All on 4 dental implants in Towson, we first schedule a consultation. At that appointment, we’ll take a series of detailed images of your jaw. We’ll use these images to determine the right places to anchor your dental implants and design permanent teeth fully tailored to fit comfortably.
When you arrive for your implant surgery, we first answer any remaining questions you have and help you get ready for the procedure. Once you’re ready, we administer anesthesia and begin the surgery. Our doctors carefully installs the dental implants in your jaw and puts in a set of temporary teeth. This process takes about 2 to 4 hours.
After your surgery, you can expect about 7 to 10 days of downtime with restrictions on physical activity. However, your gums, jaw, and mouth will continue to heal for the next few months as the bone heals around the dental implants. About 9 months after your initial surgery, we will install your permanent teeth. These teeth are made of Bruxzir zirconia, a sturdy material with a natural appearance. Bruxzir zirconia lasts longer than many other composite materials commonly used for dental bridges and crowns.
With proper care and healthy dental hygiene habits, your All on 4 dental implant can last you a lifetime!
We perform your dental implant surgery using local anesthetics, N2O, IV sedation, or a combination of all 3 to ensure your comfort. These will impair your ability to drive, so you should arrange for transportation to and from your surgical appointment in advance.
Because your implant surgery sometimes includes some form of general anesthesia, there are several strict guidelines you should follow leading up to your appointment. Do not eat or drink anything after midnight before your procedure. Doing so could cause complications during sedation.
For at least 12 hours before your appointment, avoid smoking. Have another responsible adult drive you to and from your appointment, remaining at the office during your procedure. Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing to your surgery. Take out any contact lenses and dentures, and do not wear any jewelry, lipstick, excessive make-up or nail polish.
If you come down with an illness, such as a cold, sore throat, etc., please call our office before your surgery so we can reschedule the procedure if necessary.
We will review your post-care instructions with you several times before your procedure, and we’ll provide you with a written copy. It’s important to follow these instructions to ensure correct healing and the best possible results from your All on 4 dental implant. We will give you a list of food restrictions for the first few days after surgery and directions for keeping your temporary bridge clean.
If we prescribe you an antibiotic, complete the entire course of treatment to prevent infection. We may also advise you to avoid smoking or drinking through a straw for a time to reduce the risk of complications.
If you have any questions about the recovery process after getting All on 4 dental implants in Towson, we encourage you to contact our office and ask.
